Phillis, 61, has been a member of VAC since October 2013. Phillis is a retired Human Resources Advisor. She enjoys traveling, gardening, swimming, and spending time with her family.
Phillis joined the VAC to improve her overall health and fitness. “Out of shape was an understatement,” she said of herself. She was reluctant about going to the gym in her condition; however, she found everyone at VAC very courteous and supportive. From the first moment she walked through the doors, she felt comfortable. The VAC Staff was friendly and took an interest in her health and fitness.
Phillis enrolled in swimming lessons at VAC. She said many times that Dayna has a vast background in swimming and is extremely knowledgeable and is a very skilled instructor. Dayna was very patient, simplifying Phillis’s technique to a level that was easily understood. Dayna made the necessary modifications to her swimming lessons to enable her to exercise within her medical limitations. Phillis now swims as often as she can.
Phillis’s accomplishment was not easy, as she has medical challenges and was on oxygen 24 hours a day. Learning to swim was a major contributing factor in improving her ability to breath. She no longer requires oxygen during the day. She also enjoys the water classes offered at VAC and noted that the water walking class has improved her joint mobility.
VAC has been especially beneficial for her and has changed her life for the better. Phillis is exemplary of VAC’s mission: Quality of Life Through Health & Fitness.
