Travis has had two ever-present passions in his life: physical fitness and animals. As a thirteen year old kid he was doing one of three things: investigating animals in the wild, lifting weights in the gym, and studying for school. Little has changed over time. A keen interest in biology led him to a doctorate in veterinary medicine specializing in radiation oncology. The fitness passion led him to the strength sport of powerlifting. Somewhere in between, Travis discovered his love for personal training. With his scientific background, knowledge of anatomy and physiology, passion for sports and fitness, and commitment to helping others become healthier versions of themselves, Travis has the perfect combination of traits for personal training.
Throughout his life he has assumed numerous and varied roles as a teacher and guide, always enjoying the chance to share knowledge with others. His approach to personal training draws on these experiences, guiding and motivating clients to more active and healthy lifestyles through individualized exercise programs. His special interests include the benefits of resistance training for all age groups and fitness levels with emphasis on correct form and safety. As the Personal Training Director at the Vashon Athletic Club, Travis strives for every member to have the best possible experience through their unique fitness journey.
A long time instructor, Karen has been involved in wellness and fitness for over 20 years. She has taught and trained in a myriad of modalities throughout that time. Karen is an Ace certified professional and certified Yoga instructor. Her classes and personal training sessions focus on range of motion, body awareness, alignment, strength and stability for sustainable movement to keep participants doing the things they love to do. Karen’s classes are self paced and suited for all types of participants who want a safe challenge and are able to continue to master movements, explore boundaries and tap into their bodies full potential.
Tristan has more than a decade of experience in the health and fitness field with a Bachelor’s Degree in exercise physiology from Humboldt State University. Tristan has worked in corporate gyms in Colorado Springs and San Diego as the lead personal trainer, as well as owning and operating his own private training business in southern California.
More recently, he has taken a deep dive into Integrative Medicine and Holistic Healing. What makes Tristan unique is his comprehensive understanding of the human condition and what it takes to move a person toward optimum health and wellness. He recognizes the connection between mind, body and spirit and utilizes this understanding to promote well-being for all his clients. He is a certified Psych-K facilitator, in active myofascial release technique and regularly practices Qi Gong.
Zoe is an empathetic, driven individual who thrives from helping others find success within themselves. Raised on Vashon, she has deep ties to this community and is excited to offer guidance and support to her peers who are looking for help on their fitness journey. She has spent most of her life participating in sports and understands the importance of regularly incorporating exercise into one’s lifestyle. Zoe specializes in communication, goal setting, and giving folks the tools they need to reach those goals. With her knowledge in resistance training, her outgoing demeanor, and her desire to see others succeed, Zoe is a natural personal trainer.
Exercise with up to 4 other like-minded participants under the guidance of a personal trainer in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. Sessions cover strength and aerobic conditioning, as well as, mobility, balance, agility, and core work.
